OPINION POST: STATE MURDER CHARGES NOW
Renee Good’s Killer Must Face STATE Murder Charges – Not Federal Charges Trump Can Pardon
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. She wasn’t a target for arrest. She wasn’t committing a crime. She was watching out for her immigrant neighbors—acting as a legal observer in her own community.
The Trump administration immediately lied about what happened.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Renee’s actions “an act of domestic terrorism.” President Trump called her a “professional agitator.” They claim she tried to run over federal agents, weaponizing her vehicle.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey watched the video. His response? “That is bullshit.”
“This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying—getting killed,” Frey said at a press conference. “The narrative that this was done in self-defense is garbage. That is not true.”
Governor Tim Walz called the shooting “totally predictable” and “totally avoidable.” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said there’s nothing indicating the shooting was justified.
Witnesses tell a different story than Trump’s DHS: Renee was blocking ICE vehicles that were stuck in the snow. Community members were blowing whistles to alert neighbors of ICE’s presence. An agent approached her driver’s side door. She put her car in reverse, then drive. Three shots fired. She was shot in the head through her windshield in front of a family member.
WHY STATE CHARGES MATTER
Here’s what Trump and his loyalists are counting on: Federal charges can be pardoned by the President.
If this ICE agent is charged federally—even with murder—Trump will pardon him. He’s already defended the shooting. VP JD Vance said the killing was “a tragedy of her own making” and promised ICE agents “your president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind you.”
They’re telling federal agents they can kill with impunity.
But state charges cannot be pardoned by the President.
Minnesota has jurisdiction here. This happened on Minneapolis streets. A Minnesota resident was killed. The Minnesota Governor, Mayor, Police Chief, and elected officials all dispute the federal government’s account.
Minnesota prosecutors must bring STATE murder charges against this ICE agent.
THIS IS STATE-SPONSORED TERRORISM
Let’s be crystal clear about what happened in Minneapolis:
- A federal paramilitary force deployed 2,000+ agents to a major American city
- They shot and killed a U.S. citizen who was not suspected of any crime
- They blocked emergency medical responders from reaching her for 15 minutes
- They immediately launched a propaganda campaign calling HER a domestic terrorist
- The President defended the killing and blamed “the radical left”
- They deployed chemical weapons against protesters mourning her death
This is less than a mile from where George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police. Schools closed for two days out of safety concerns. The National Guard is on alert.
Secretary Noem had the audacity to call Renee’s actions “domestic terrorism” while her agents shot a U.S. citizen for watching out for her neighbors.
If using your vehicle to block ICE is terrorism, what do you call shooting someone in the head through their windshield?
WHAT MUST HAPPEN NOW
- Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison must immediately open a state murder investigation
- Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty must bring STATE charges against the ICE agent who killed Renee Good
- The Minnesota State Legislature must pass legislation asserting state jurisdiction over federal agents who kill state residents
- Congress must impeach DHS Secretary Kristi Noem (Rep. Robin Kelly has already announced impeachment articles)
- Every city and state must refuse cooperation with ICE operations
The federal government will not hold this agent accountable. Trump will pardon him. Noem already called his actions “lawful” and “defensive.”
Only STATE prosecutors can ensure justice for Renee Good.
Only STATE charges can prevent Trump from erasing accountability with a pardon.
ICE HAS BECOME A PARAMILITARY DEATH SQUAD
This isn’t the first time ICE has shot civilians in recent weeks. According to reports, there was another shooting on Christmas Eve in Maryland. The pattern is clear: Trump has unleashed ICE as an occupying force in American cities with permission to use deadly force.
When local officials say “get the fuck out of our city” (Mayor Frey’s exact words), and the response is to shoot a community member in the head, that’s not law enforcement. That’s terrorism.
When the Vice President responds to a killing by saying “Don’t illegally interfere in federal law enforcement operations… It’s really that simple,” that’s a green light for more killings.
When the administration calls a U.S. citizen exercising her First Amendment rights a “professional agitator” and blames her for her own murder, that’s fascism.
RENEE GOOD WAS CARING FOR HER NEIGHBORS
Renee’s mother called her “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
City Council Member Robin Wonsley said: “There’s no reason why we lost Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, who was simply caring and protecting her neighbor.”
She was exercising her constitutional rights. She was protecting her community. She was a legal observer—a role protected by the First Amendment.
And a federal agent shot her in the head for it.
STATE CHARGES OR FEDERAL PARDON – MINNESOTA MUST CHOOSE JUSTICE
Minnesota prosecutors: You have one chance to get this right.
Bring STATE murder charges. Do not defer to federal jurisdiction. Do not allow this to become a federal case Trump can disappear with a pardon.
The eyes of the nation are on you. Every city targeted by ICE’s paramilitary operations is watching. Every community member who might stand up to protect their neighbors is watching.
Will you let Trump’s ICE kill with impunity? Or will you use your state authority to demand accountability?
Renee Good’s life mattered. Her family deserves justice. Her community deserves protection from state-sponsored violence.
Charge this agent with murder under Minnesota state law. Now.
