When Rep. Angie Craig pressed her on farmers who can’t afford fertilizer because of Trump’s Iran war and tariffs, Rollins deflected to “geographic variation.” When Rep. Shontel Brown raised Trump’s defense of Chinese ownership of U.S. farmland, Rollins cut her off, calling the question “rude.” Her department implemented $187 billion in SNAP cuts that will strip food assistance from roughly 4 million Americans, shifted the resulting cost burden onto states, and — at one bizarre press conference alongside Speaker Johnson — she admitted, unprompted, “the fact that your government is failing you right now.” She was more honest by accident than in almost any prepared testimony since.
