Shipping People to Warlords and Calling It Policy
The Trump administration’s “third-country deportation” program continues sending people to some of the most dangerous places on earth — places the U.S. State Department itself warns Americans not to visit. DHS attempted to deport people from the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos to Libya, a country widely criticized for mistreatment of detainees and ongoing civil unrest, where Libyan officials denied any agreement to accept deportees even existed. South Sudan is no better: the State Department considers it too dangerous for almost all Americans, warning travelers to plan for hostage situations, and yet eight men were shipped there anyway after being held for six weeks in a converted shipping container at a U.S. military base. As of May 2026, the administration has used these arrangements to send roughly 19,000 people to at least 23 countries, frequently with less than a day’s notice and no real chance to contest the destination. Sunday’s UFC spectacle wasn’t just expensive — it was a case study in who actually gets access to the White House under this administration. Seats on the South Lawn reportedly cost as much as $1.5 million, available to “influential people” willing to pay. Trump personally controlled 1,400 tickets, Dana White kept 300 for himself, and TKO CEO Ari Emanuel got another 200 — a private allocation of public real estate handed out like party favors. For the rest of the crowd, around 1,200 of the roughly 4,000 seats went to active-duty troops — but only the ones who qualified. Service members needed a waist-to-height ratio of less than 0.55 and had to meet every service-specific fitness standard just to be eligible for a free ticket, and even then they had to pay their own travel costs. No regular fans. No general public. Just cabinet officials, major donors, and troops who looked good enough on camera. Trump’s appearance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs came with the full weight of presidential security — a watch party outside Madison Square Garden was canceled entirely because of the Secret Service perimeter, several blocks were closed to traffic, a strict no-bag policy was enforced, and fans were told to arrive at least two hours early. Even the players weren’t spared, with both the Knicks and Spurs subjected to TSA-style screening before they could take the court. Fans who endured all of that were rewarded with deafening boos directed at Trump during the national anthem and a front-row seat to him appearing to doze off in his suite. Liberal commentator Joe Gallina first shared the footage, which Meidas Touch described as the president taking “a long blink” — the same excuse the White House used in May after he was caught with his eyes closed during an Oval Office event. Knicks owner James Dolan insisted “he was very much awake, he was very much engaged” — a claim the video itself does not exactly support. This is the same man who spent years mocking “Sleepy Joe.” The Knicks, for what it’s worth, lost that game and then went on to win the series anyway, so at least basketball had the decency to ignore the circus. Trump’s interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker ended the way most conversations about the 2020 election with this president eventually do: badly, and on his terms. When Welker pressed him on whether he’d produced any evidence the election had been stolen, Trump responded by accusing NBC of being a “one-sided crooked network”, then escalated to telling her directly: “Really? Well, you play right into their hands, then. You’re either crooked, or you’re stupid.” When she tried to keep the conversation going, noting she’d traveled all the way to Wisconsin for the sit-down, Trump cut her off: “Your elections are crooked, and you’re crooked, and ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked. And so is ABC and CBS and CNN.” Then he walked. It has now been more than five years, well over 60 lost court cases, and not one piece of the “evidence” he says he has has ever materialized — not for 2020, and now not for California’s 2026 election either, which he attacked in the same breath with the same total absence of proof. He doesn’t have evidence. He has a story he refuses to stop telling, and a habit of calling anyone who asks for receipts either corrupt or an idiot.
